Introduction
Kentra Training provide a wide selection of Health and Safety courses, including this Safety at Street and Roadworks training course. We specialise in providing on-site training and this course is delivered using a mixture of both classroom based tutorial and practical testing and a final course assessment.

Aims and Objectives
To provide the practical skills and safety knowledge necessary for candidates to correctly prepare and safely arrange for Signing, Guarding & Lighting, ensuring safety at road and streetworks.

This course is designed for candidates of all abilities. We can assist candidates with any learning difficulties or where English may not be their first language, please mention when booking a course.

Legality
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) state that The law requires:
All work associated with establishing, altering, maintaining and removing static traffic management systems needs to be undertaken in ways that ensure the health and safety of both workers and road users. In addition to highway legislation such as the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 (TSRGD), clients and their agents, designers, contractors and workers need to ensure that they comply with their duties under health and safety law.

This requires that duty holders assess work-related risks and eliminate, reduce and control significant risks, so far as is reasonably practicable.

Course Duration
The Safety at Street and Roadworks training course ratios are
8 Candidates: 1 Instructor: 1 Day

Course Content
● Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and other relevant legislation and guidelines
● New roads & street works act 1991 and ACOP
● Chapter 8 of the DOT traffic signs manual
● Basic principals for safe street works
● Pre operational equipment checks
● Prepare work area
● Site layout, equipment needed, sign lighting & reflectorisation
● Traffic control, foot ways, prepare 30mph carriageways, 40mph carriageways & dual carriageways
● Working near pedestrian crossings, road junctions, level crossings, and roundabouts and other layouts e.g. T junctions
● End of shift checks

Course Requirements
Prior to coming on the course the candidate should have been issued with and have studied the ‘Safety at Street Works & Road Works’ a code of practice booklet available from The Stationery Office, on-site resources.

A room suitable for lecturing and for the use of our audio-visual equipment, chairs and desk for the use by the trainee and instructor would be appreciated.
The activities are undertaken either on-site or a realistic simulated site.

Equipment required includes:
A full set of temporary signing and guarding for works on a road or foot way.
2 x Roadworks, 2 x End, 2 x Road Narrows, 2 x Keep Left / Right, 4 x Barrier Cones,
8 x Rails, 24 Cones, 1 x Stop & Go, Temporary Traffic signals.
(If you are short of any of these items please let us know, as we have some equipment that we can bring with us)

Delegates will be expected to provide their own PPE.

Certification & Validation
This Safety at Street and Roadworks training course can be registered with our awarding body or certificated as a Kentra card. We are a registered training provider and our cards are suitable for the HSE and insurances. Our instructor will take the candidates picture on the day of training, which will appear on their ID cards.

Candidates successfully completing this course will receive one of the following:
● Kentra Training course validation and plastic (credit card size) ID card
● NPORS registration and plastic ID card N714 Safety at Street and Roadworks training course
If NPORS is required we will need to notify them prior to the course, so please mention this when booking.
