Kentra can provide a Crane training course, for novice candidates through to experienced operators and the course registered by ourselves or with an awarding body if required.


Novice course: 3 Candidates: 1 Machine: 1 Instructor: 1-10 Days

Refresher and Test: 3 Candidates: 1 Machine: 1 Instructor: 1 Day

Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): 4 Candidates: 1 Machine: 1 Instructor: 1 Day

EWT 3 + 3 combination of tests is available for this category (i.e. 3 tests on a Mobile Crane + 3 tests on a Gantry Crane or 3 Crane + 3 Slinger tests, in the day) A a full list of all the combinations available upon request.

We also provide training for Slinger / Signaller which maybe of interest.

To provide the practical skills and the operating safety knowledge necessary for operators to correctly prepare, safely operate and maintain a Crane.

Course Content
Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 1998, LOLER 1998 and other relevant legislation.
Pre-shift checks and daily maintenance
Motive and operating controls
Liaison with Banksman/slinger signaller
Weight and load assessment
Operating safety rules and lifting procedures
Crane positioning and operating radius
Deployment of outriggers (mobile crane)
Operations with large/awkward loads
Safe Load indicator
Carry out various lifts

Course Requirements
A room for the theory session and a safe area for the practical session with use of the crane.

Representative Loads.

Slinger signaller to liaise with and assist with the lifting operation.

Combination 3 + 3 tests available with the N402 Slinger Signaller.

The Instructor is required to see the LOLER certificate for all equipment used for the practical sessions before commencement of the course.

Certification & Validation
This course can be registered with different awarding bodies if required, or simply a Kentra card – as a registered training provider we can supply a plastic ID card as proof of training, suitable for the HSE and insurances.

If an awarding body validation is required we will need to notify them prior to the course, so please mention this when booking.
Candidates successfully completing this course will receive one of the following certifications:

Kentra validation and plastic ID card

CPCS registration and plastic ID card.  Mobile, all duties.

Lantra Awards registration and plastic ID card.  Sea Crane.  Mounted Hydraulic Operated Crane Boat, Pier or Combined Boat and Pier.

NPORS registration and plastic ID card – Crane training course

NPORS variations are: Crawler crane N103, Mobile Crane N101, Overhead Crane N104, Mini Compact Crane N140
