We specialise in providing over 100 different Health and Safety courses including the N723 Harness and Fall Arrest. This course can be delivered on-site where we would come to you or come to us at our purpose designed training centre in Middlewich, Cheshire. This training combines a mixture of both classroom based tutorial and practical harness inspection and a final course assessment.
Aims and Objectives
This course will give persons attending the knowledge and the skills to be proficient in the use and inspection of Harness and Fall Arrest equipment.
Delegate Eligibility – Entry Requirements
This course is designed for candidates of all abilities. We can assist candidates with any learning difficulties or where English may not be their first language, please mention when booking a course.
Course Duration
10 Candidates: 1 Instructor, Duration: Half Day
During a day we can run two half day sessions for Harness and Fall Arrest. Alternatively we can offer a different half day course such as Safe working at Heights or Safe use of Ladders. i.e. AM session for Harness and Fall Arrest followed by the PM session for Safe use of Ladders.

Course Content
- Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Performance criteria, plan, organise and co-ordinate own work, adopting safe working practices.
- Types of lanyards and harnesses.
- Pre-use equipment checks.
- Environmental & Communication: Hand signals, verbal or radio communication
- Practical activities, working safely.
- Practical fitting on anchorage.
- Safety equipment. Identifying suitable Anchor Points – Safe Routes – Safety Hazards.
- End of shift checks.
- Inspection and storage of equipment.
All activities will be conducted under 5 metres in height.
Learning Outcomes
- Have a basic understanding of the dangers and their responsibilities
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the Harness – Fall Arrest and explain their functions
- Conduct all safety checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
- Select suitable type of Harness – Fall Arrest relative to the work being undertaken
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Harness – Fall Arrest use and demonstrate correct usage
- Correctly fit and remove the safety Harness – Fall Arrest
- Carry out end of work inspections
- Storage of Harness – Fall Arrest
Certification & Validation
This course can be registered with our awarding body NPORS or accredited by us Kentra Training. We are a registered training provider and our cards are suitable for the HSE and insurances.
So candidates successfully completing this course will receive one of the following:
- Kentra Training course validation and plastic (credit card size) ID card
- NPORS registration and plastic ID card N723 Harness and Fall Arrest
If NPORS is required we will need to notify them prior to the course, so please mention this when booking.
Our instructor will take the candidates picture on the day of training, which will appear on their ID cards.

Legality
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ‘All people using equipment at work must be adequately trained to ensure health and safety in its use, supervision or management. … People should be competent for the work they undertake. Training – along with knowledge, experience and skill – helps develop such competence. However, competence may (in some cases) necessarily include medical fitness and physical or mental aptitude for the activity.’
Course Requirements
This course can be delivered on-site where we come to you and use your equipment, alternatively you can come to us and we will provide everything you need for the course.
On-site Course Requirements
You will need:
- A room for the theory session.
- A safe area for the practical session using Harnesses and Lanyards.
- Site to fit an Anchorage.
- All equipment to be in good working order.
- Candidates will need to know their own date of birth and National Insurance number.
Training Centre Course Requirements
For courses conducted at our training centre, in Middlewich we provide all the equipment, tools and supplies required to conduct the course.
- Delegates will need to be suitably dressed to use the equipment, including safety boots, steel toe-capped boots or sensible shoes.
- Candidates may wish to bring their own PPE to use (this includes hearing, leg and eye protection, helmet and gloves), alternatively this PPE can be supplied by us.
- If you would prefer you may bring along your own equipment to use during the course, so that we can run through the maintenance on your own equipment.
- Candidates will need to know their own date of birth and National Insurance number.
Courses at our training centre can be run as open training programmes, meaning that if you only have one or two candidates, you can join a course with other delegates on a mutually convenient day.
