Kentra Training is celebrating 25 successful years of safety training.  Norman was recently interviewed by Katy from Go Local and they talked about all things Kentra. Here’s a copy of the article.

February 2022 is a very special month for one Middlewich family business. It sees Kentra Training celebrating their 25th anniversary.

All those years ago, back in 1997, Norman Kennish took the leap and founded his Health and Safety training company, specialising in plant and machinery.

Whilst they would like to physically celebrate with a party for all their loyal customers, that will have to wait due to Covid, but it was lovely for me to meet the family and hear how they have grown over the years and their plans for the future.

With most of their work completed on site, they also have a unit on the Sheeran Trading Estate on Nantwich Road which has a classroom and equipment for hands-on training.

They do a vast range of courses which cover, in Norman’s words, ‘Anything from cranes downwards’.

Over the years they have built up a strong customer base and have provided courses all over the country, with most of their new business coming from word of mouth and recommendations.

Like many businesses, Covid has been a journey for Kentra Training. There are rules around how often training on equipment needs to be updated, and for many of their clients they needed to do a booster after returning to work from furlough too. Plus, they have kept a close eye on the regulations to keep their trainees safe.

Kentra Training are a true family business, with Norman’s wife Tricia helping out in the beginning with all the administration, daughter Emma taking over the accounting as the business grew, and son John becoming a trainer. More recently, Emma’s 16-year-old son has started to get involved in the business; his dream is to become a fireman, and I am sure building his knowledge of Health and Safety will put him in good stead for this career path. The name Kentra came from the family name Kennish, with a twist added by son John.

I did ask Norman about his plans for the future and did dare to mention the ‘R’ word. He admitted he wouldn’t know what to do with himself if he was to retire, and it is so obvious that he loves what he does. He keeps updated with industry standards through their governing body (NPORS) and trade magazines, and I am sure he won’t mind me saying, he is a ‘Health and Safety’ expert.

I love going behind the front doors of Middlewich residents and meeting the many talented people we have in our town; it is a pleasure to celebrate their successes.  The Kennish family wanted to thank all their clients for their support over the years, and they look forward to working with them in the future.
