Visit to the Isle of Man

As many of you may know, Norman’s family are from the Isle of Man, and for many years we have made the trip over to the Island a few times a year.

So before the weather heads into Winter and the ferry sailings are forced to change, we are making our autumn trip over.

Noman has a contract of eight, two day courses to complete commencing on Monday 16th October.  So he will be over for nearly two weeks and joining him for at least part of the time will be Gary.

We are still preparing Gary’s schedule, so if you are on the Island and need any training this autumn, please get in touch and we can get you booked in.

Autumn 2023 Newsletter

NPORS are constantly updating their test sheets and forms. One of the newer requirements is that all candidates should complete their tests sheets with National Insurance numbers, date of birth and full contact details, to include contact number and email address.

These are identifying factors and will never be used for marketing purposes by either NPORS or ourselves.

Test Sheets

Telescopic Handler and Excavator now have bolt-on training categories to cover the use of these machine to carry items under the forks, bucket or via an attachment.

These are Telescopic Handler Underslung loads (N138) and Excavator as a Crane (N100).  These are categories to be added to a valid operator ticket and, if the candidate is the one attaching the loads to the machine, they must also have a valid Slinger/Signaller ticket.

N132 Plant Mover

We have been carrying out a lot of Plant Mover training recently. This course is aimed at candidates who are responsible for moving and shifting items of plant but who don’t actually need to be able to operate them.  The course was designed for production companies, mechanics, repairers and delivery personnel.  Each person can complete up to 3 tests on the course giving them a variety of machines available to move.
What used to be called the Banksman course has now been split into several different options.

Any candidate successfully completing the Plant Marshal training will also get the Vehicle Marshal category on their card.

MEWP’s

Speaking of variations, MEWPs are also split into different categories.
Whilst most people are aware of the two main one – Scissor and Boom (Cherry Picker), testing is further split by identifying each MEWP as Mobile or Static.
So, there are 4 variations in total and they all must be tested individually.

1A – Static Vertical (Driven into position and cannot drive elevated)
1B – Static Boom (Trailer mounted, van mounted, lorry mounted and spider lift, cannot drive elevated)

3A – Mobile Vertical (can drive elevated)
3B – Mobile Boom (can drive elevated)

A note from Norman

As many of you know Kentra Training was established in February 1997 by Norman Kennish, and we like to finish our newsletters with a quick word from him.

As a keen gardener I’m going to be busy this weekend pruning cutting and chopping to get the garden ready for winter.  Don’t forget its not just the big horticulture equipment that we training on, we also do the hedge trimmers, mowers and woodchippers, to name a few.   All of these pieces of kit can be dangerous if not used properly, so if you think you could benefit from some training and advise please give us a call.

Finally, I would just like to thank all our customers, staff and instructors for the continued support over the past year.

For any help or assistance please contact us.
