🚚 Lorry Loader Training – Safe Lifting from the Roadside

Lorry loaders—commonly known as HIABs—are vital across industries like construction, logistics, utilities, and plant hire. These truck-mounted cranes allow operators to lift, move, and deliver heavy loads directly from their vehicles. But with great versatility comes great responsibility.

At Kentra Training, we deliver certified Lorry Loader training to ensure operators use this equipment safely, efficiently, and within legal requirements.

🔧 What Is a Lorry Loader (HIAB)?

“HIAB” is often used to describe all lorry loaders, though it’s technically a brand name (Hydrauliska Industri AB).  A lorry loader is a crane mounted on a vehicle, designed to load and unload the vehicle’s own payload.

They’re powerful, flexible, and often used in tight spaces—but incorrect use can lead to accidents, injuries, or costly damage.

⚖️ Do I Need HIAB Training?

Yes. The use of lorry loaders is covered under:

  • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) 1998

  • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) 1998

These laws require lifting operations to be properly planned, equipment to be suitable and maintained, and operators to be trained and competent.

Whether you’re using hook attachments, brick grabs, or remote-controlled cranes, training is mandatory.
