Kentra Training was established by Norman Kennish in February 1997, providing on-site courses for all types of industries. We now provide over 100 different courses covering all areas including agricultural, industrial and construction, many of which have NPORS accreditation available.

Norman was first registered as an instructor in 1985 and a commercial consultant and trainer from 1989. Since then the business has continued to grow with Norman’s wife Tricia joining as a partner, followed by their children Emma and John.   A purpose built office was created in 2005, moving to a larger office in 2015 as more staff joined the business allowing greater flexibility for the business to continue growing.

The next step

Kentra took the next step and opened a Training Centre in October 2018. By the end of that year accreditation with NPORS had been approved and National Plant training has been running from our centre since January 2019.

Most popular courses

One of our most popular courses is the Confined Spaces as this can be practically difficult to arrange a training space on-site.  We have the specially designed and NPORS approved Confined Space medium risk area for our training including crawl space, tripod, and winch to enable training in a safe and realistic working environment.

Other courses include our Report of Thorough Examination for small lifting equipment and accessories. Lifting equipment such as harnesses and shackles need to be regularly checked and such inspections can prove costly.  However you can train to be the ‘Competent person’ to perform these examinations yourself. Our courses are run throughout the year and registered with NPORS, more details are talked about on our Safety Inspector blog.

Let’s not forget our numerous Tool Safety and Workshop courses which cover the unique Small Plant and Portable Tools course developed by Kentra and NPORS and only available through our centre for NPORS registration and the ever popular Wood working machinery courses.

Come and train with us

Training with us couldn’t be simpler, once you are booked on to the course all you need to bring is yourself and any personal PPE you may prefer.  All the equipment and safety PPE is provided and we will provide the equipment and accessories for the course, however if you wish to bring any of your own equipment this is perfectly fine to do so and we can then train you on the machinery you are used to working with.

Due to the nature of the courses we provide, we also ask that candidates clothing be suitable for practical use of the equipment, including Safety Boots where possible.

Lunch

Up until earlier this year lunch had been provided for delegates on full day courses, however due to COVID19 we are advised not to supply at the moment but we hope that this will again be something we can offer in future.   We therefore suggest that candidates bring their own sandwiches or there is a lovely ‘Little Café’ on our industrial estate which supplies a variety of hot and cold food every day.
