NPORS MEWP

As many of you know Kentra Training was established in 1997 by Norman Kennish. Straight away the company registered with NPORS as a training provider. Our registration is number 66 and we are now one of the longest serving TP’s with them, delivering nearly 100 different training courses, including our own unique NPORS Small Plant and Portable Tools course and also the NPORS MEWP, which is what this blog is about.

NPORS MEWP

There are two different NPORS courses for MEWPS, N108 for Boom‘s and N109 for Scissor Lifts.  Within these courses there are two variations based on if they are static or if they operate, can be driven elevated.

MEWP Variations

NPORS MEWP

Scissor Lifts

1A – Static Vertical (Driven into position and cannot drive elevated)

3A – Mobile Vertical (can drive elevated)

NPORS MEWP

Boom (Also called Cherry Pickers)

1B – Static Boom (Trailer mounted, van mounted, lorry mounted and spider lift, cannot drive elevated)

3B – Mobile Boom (can drive elevated)

The above names are linked to our blogs for the A to Z of our training and the individual course syllabuses.

We have also written a couple more blogs about general MEWP safety Everything you need to know about Scissor Lift safety and Assess your Work at Height Activities both these blogs contain more information about the training available with us.

Course Ratio’s

The following course training and testing ratios are the maximum numbers set by NPORS. They cover novice operator training and testing, through to experienced worker tests. The ratios given are based on One instructor and One machine in a standard eight hour working day.

Duration: The course duration is dependent upon the number of candidates and their experience operating the machine.

  • Novice candidates : 1 day for 4 candidates on one variation. This course is for candidates who have never been tested before, includes instructor presentation and full operator training
  • Refresher and Test : 1 day for 4 candidates on one variation : This course is for candidates who have been tested before but need a bit of remedial tuition before being retested. Includes instructor presentation as above, then remedial tuition if the candidates have any bad habits etc. whilst conducting the practical assessment
  • Experienced Worker Tests : 1 day for 6 candidates or tests. This course is for experienced workers and does not include any training – this is just testing only – no tuition should be required for experienced workers.

For experienced workers we can mix the variations, so if you have both a MEWP Scissor and a MEWP Boom (3A & 3B for example) we can test 3 candidates on both machines, as this will be the 6 tests in one day.

NPORS MEWP
